- Dog Friendly Cambridge
The Four Legged Foodies take a punt on this dog friendly city. We heard that the city of Cambridge loves Four Legged friends so we thought we would check it out for ourselves. Cambridge can be reached by train from London Kings Cross in under 1 hour (visit Thameslink for details and timetables) and by car in around 2 hours. Making the University city a great place for a weekend away. We stayed at the Hyatt Centric which is located in the Eddington area of the city. We were greeted by resident Dachshund Basil who spends most of his days on reception and he recommended some places we should try. We were then shown to our very comfortable room where we had bowls and blankets to use during our stay. The room was very spacious with a sofa and table and a large window from which we could shout out to any fellow doggies passing by. It's always important to let people know you're in town! The two things the humans require of a hotel room are a huge bed and a strong, hot shower. We are pleased to report these boxes were ticked. The hotel has a large outdoor toilet area in the form of a landscaped garden which is partly lawned and there are plenty of bins nearby. The area around the hotel is very quiet as it is situated on an out of town development. The park and ride bus into Cambridge is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Now let's get to the part that's really worth shouting about - the FOOD! We dogs are welcome in the hotel's 2 restaurants and coffee bar. There is also a roof terrace which opens April to September. We had breakfast and dinner in The Astronomer which is a bright and spacious dining area with plenty of room for Four Legged guests. The waiter brought us a plate of biscuits so we didn't have to watch the humans eat. Before or after dinner (or both, you're on holiday go wild!) you can join your humans at Dutch cocktail bar which is next to the hotel. After a hearty breakfast (make sure to get extra sausages) it's time to explore the city. Cambridge is a bustling city with tourists visiting from all over the world to see its beautiful architecture and discover the history of the University. Follow Dog Friendly Cambridge where Matilda the Dachshund has lots of dog friendly suggestions for you. We liked the look of Matilda's suggestion of Scott's All Day for lunch which is a 20 minute walk from the city centre but well worth it. The staff are very welcoming to all four legged foodies and the humans loved the buzzy, social feel of this neighbourhood restaurant. You won't hear us complaining when the pizzas are bigger than our heads! Our friend Hektor recommended a visit to Dishoom Permit Room in Cambridge This a renowned Indian restaurant in London where humans queue for hours to get tables and are not dog friendly but the Permit Rooms are very welcoming to dogs. The most fun thing for all the family to do when in Cambridge is take a punt on the river with The Traditional Punting Company . Pooches and humans can hop on board for a 45 minute trip. Alex did a great job getting us up the river against the tide whislt also telling us lots of historical facts about Cambridge and all the famous people who have studied there. Blankets and umbrellas are provided so this is something you can enjoy in any weather. We did it in December! If you prefer to stay somewhere with a little more space and the option to do your own cooking, we highly recommend Turing Locke apartments which are located next to the Hyatt Centric. All the apartments are dog friendly and pooches are welcomed with a goodie bag each of treats, a toy and a bandana. Guests are able to use all the restaurants and Dutch bar. All that exploring is tiring when you're almost 14! Archie had a great night's sleep in the comfy beds provided at Turing Locke. Dog Friendly dining at Dishoom Permit Room @hekkigram The Permit Rooms are super dog friendly! You can even spy the big jar of gravy bones at the entrance! Staff absolutely love dogs here - as soon as we sat down they brought a bowl of water and offered Hektor treats. Relax and recharge at dog friendly Relais Cooden Beach hotel and spa in Bexhill-on-Sea We had the pleasure of staying at T he Relais Cooden Beach hotel and spa which is a fabulous dog friendly hotel, situated right on the beach at Bexhill-on-Sea. The hotel has vibrant decor for perfect pics and the staff gave us a warm welcome before showing us to our room. Our room had it's own verandah and a perfect view out to sea. I'm always delighted to discover a little something special waiting for me! My Doghouse box had treats (yum), a ball (fun) and some poop bags (these excite the humans). Apart from the poop bags, the humans had another special treat waiting in the room for them. After a quick explore and a much needed snooze, we headed to the restaurant for dinner. Dogs can dine with their humans in the cosy lounge area which is alongside the main restaurant. The menu had plenty of choice and the humans made those noises they make when they are eating something good. I get told off for doing that! With all our bellies full, it was time to get our PJs on and snuggle up on the bed that was provided for me in the room. I slept really well (as did the humans) and dreamt of sausages..... Dreams can come true!! Not only did I get a sausage for breakfast but also some black pudding. Breakfast is also served in the lounge with hot food made to order and buffet for all the other bits that humans like. Granola? What the fluff is that all about? We were very lucky with the weather for March and were able to take advantage of the hotel's location right on the beach. - Leven Hotel - Dog Friendly Hotel Manchester
Dog friendly hotel Manchester - review by Nacho of The Four Legged Foodies I love to explore UK cities so I asked the old woman to take me to Manchester to experience a bit of Northern charm! We enjoyed a fabulous stay at Leven which is a fabulous dog friendly hotel in Manchester city centre. It's always a good start to any visit when I see that the hotel has its priorities right when it comes to who is the most important guest. Not only were the staff super welcoming but I had a special treat waiting for me in the room. My welcome pack included lots of tasty treats, including a pupcake and also a ball to keep me entertained. Notice how small her name is below mine? There was also a comfy bed for me and a bowl to enjoy my dinner in. The sign was her idea of joke - I had actually had a bath specially for the trip!! The human got her own treat of a special pair of socks to keep her feet warm. You can tell by my face that she did not have a bath specially for the trip! Our room was spacious with lots of windows so I could look out and watch the dogs of Manchester passing by. There was a huge bed for the human and a little kitchen area which was perfect for her to prepare my meals. The reception are is very stylish and welcoming in design and there is a small room where a buffet breakfast is served. Guests at Leven can get dinner and cocktails at Maya which is next to the hotel. Dogs are welcome in the lower ground area of the restaurant where they serve delicious food - it was Sunday so they had a roast dinner. They ate every morsel so I assume it was good. They are still talking about how amazing the cocktails were. Gay Village Manchester Leven is in the heart of Manchester's gay village which is very colourful and way too cool for my oldies! (That's only my opinion - they loved it). The area is very busy at weekends and can get lively but we heard nothing from our hotel room and all slept soundly. The old woman used the excuse of wanting to show the beautiful exterior of the hotel as a way of infiltrating my blog - please feel free to look past her. 9 dog friendly vegan restaurants in London Here are some great dog friendly places where you can get your plant fix this Veganuary and beyond. Amrutha Earsfield This small but mighty vegan restaurant in Earlsfield offers Asian tapas style dining where all you have to choose is whether to have 8 dishes or 12. Every dish is pure heaven on a plate and dogs get their very own dish of veggies. The restaurant has a "pay what you want" policy and you can re-order as many dishes as you like. Amrutha 326 Garratt Ln, London SW18 4EJ Tofu Vegan Golders Green The humans are always looking for restaurants that push the boundaries with vegan food and Tofu Vegan is just one of those places and they also love dogs! Win, win! Their 3 locations serve up delicious Chinese food from a 100% plant-based menu. Now our human has never been a fan of tofu but this place changed her mind forever. (Don't worry if you're not a fan, there are many dishes without tofu). The NOT fish burger is a must try for everyone (even we couldn’t tell it wasn’t real fish) and the dim sum are little parcels of scrumptiousness. Weekend lunchtimes are super busy so maybe try quieter times with your dog. We visited Golders Green but all 3 locations welcome dogs. Tofu Vegan Golders Green , Spitalfields and Islington Follow: @tofuveganlondon Vegan Planet Camden If you lived on planet vegan would you worship seitan? Luckily we didn't need a spaceship, just had to get the tube to Camden to enjoy this amazing Chinese vegan restaurant. The restaurant is right by Camden station or a short walk from Regent's Park. Which is a good option as you will need to work up an appetite to get through their extensive menu. All well-behaved doggies are welcome in the spacious restaurant and will get water and treats from the staff. The restaurant is 100% vegan and our humans recommend the dim sum platter, wontons in spicy sauce and salt and pepper oyster mushrooms. Vegan Planet 11 Parkway, London NW1 7PG Follow: @veganplanetcamden Yeotown Fancy some California Dreaming on a Winter's day? January in London can be bleak but once you're inside this restaurant your winter blues will disappear. Yeotown is a California inspired restaurant in the Inhabit Hotels Queens Gardens and Sussex Gardens, Bayswater. The mood is chill and the food is a work of art. The restaurant isn't 100% vegan but has a great selection of small plates that are. Our humans recommend the rice paper wraps which are filled with fruit but it works and the beautiful potato pave with edible nasturtium. And if the weather isn't too bad it's just a short hop over the road to Hyde Park for walkies. Yeotown 78 Sussex Gardens, Tyburnia, London W2 1UH Follow: @yeotownlondon Shake Shack Victoria Our friends at Shake Shack never let us down with quality food and a warm welcome for pooches. All Shake Shack locations in London are dog friendly and they have red velvet bone biscuits and poochini permanently on the menu. Shake Shack - various locations Follow: @shakeshackuk Floozie Covent Garden If you have a sweet tooth Veganuary can be difficult as most baked goods have butter or milk but we have some great news for cookie monsters...Floozie cookies are 100% vegan. Their cookies are stuffed with such deliciousness as peanut butter and jelly and pecan pie. They also have a selection of vegan drinks and ice cream. The shop is downstairs at Covent Garden Market and has a few tables inside and out where pooches are welcome. We had our own vegan puppacino while the humans stuffed their faces. At the Mall Tavern in Notting Hill you can get this nut roast with all the trimmings and you won't even miss the beef! Our human is obsessed with gravy so she was worried about how it might taste but she said it was one of the tastiest ones she ever had (apart from grandpaw's). She did cheat a little though and had the Yorkshire Pudding which you have to leave out for a full vegan dish. That's because she is a Yorkshire Pudding herself!
