- Wendover Woods
Walkies in the Chilterns with Baxter https://www.instagram.com/baxter.beagle.2021/ A Tail-Wagging Adventure at Wendover Woods ! Baxter and I (along with a few of his best pals) had a great time exploring Wendover Woods and taking part in their Forest Walkies trail featuring Wallace & Gromit. https://www.instagram.com/baxter.beagle.2021/ We headed straight to the Information Centre when we arrived and picked up our adorable Forest Walkies activity tote bags, which included matching bandanas for the dogs! Once everyone was kitted out and looking extra stylish, I quickly downloaded the OS Maps app to help us navigate the trail. It made it super easy to find all the activity panels hidden along the route. https://www.instagram.com/baxter.beagle.2021/ We made our way through the woods, ticking off all the activities and playing little games along the way. https://www.instagram.com/baxter.beagle.2021/ There were plenty of great spots for photo opportunities — and let’s be honest, when the dogs are looking that adorable, you have to snap a few (or a hundred) photos! https://www.instagram.com/baxter.beagle.2021/ Once we completed the trail, we all headed over to the Wendover Woods Café for some well-deserved refreshments. We had coffee and a bacon bap for the humans, tasty treats for the pups, and lots of happy faces all round. It was the perfect day filled with wagging tails, happy pups, and so many fun moments. A couple of helpful notes: Dogs are allowed off lead, but they must be kept close and in sight at all times. We didn’t spot any poo bins on the trail itself, but there are some by the Café and Information Centre, so plan accordingly! Walkies with Benny in this Cheadle Park https://www.instagram.com/benny__beaglier/ Abney Hall Park is situated in Cheadle. The park areas surround a Victorian house built in 1847. https://www.instagram.com/benny__beaglier/ The Hall is no longer open to the public but is used as offices. However, it's lovely to look at and think about it running back in the day and what it must have been like. It's very grand. https://www.instagram.com/benny__beaglier/ The grounds are open to wander and are stunning. They make for wonderful long weekend walks with multiple pathways around orchards and ponds, steps and even a waterfall hidden away. https://www.instagram.com/benny__beaglier/ It's a great place to roam and get lost in the beauty of nature. There are even cows grazing, which Benny enjoyed looking at. We're excited to add it to our regular walking spot list. - Gooey Manchester
Dog friendly bakery and cafe in Manchester @rambo_french_bulldog Located in The Northern Quarter in Manchester Gooey is a must visit and you don't just need to take my word for it, you can also take Lizzo's and Jay Rayners! You will also find a queue of people outside waiting to try the delicious sandwiches, donuts, cookies and more. If you want to not wait then quieter times on a weekday won't require you to wait for long. @rambo_french_bulldog The food - Can I give it a 12/10? The Egg Sando is the BEST egg sandwich I have ever eaten and I think about it a lot, talk about it to people and, work out when I can go back for it again. Oh, and the hash browns - amazing! The sandwich would have been enough but I couldn't go another visit without trying them and they lived up to my expectations. @rambo_french_bulldog Of course we also have to talk about the cookies and donuts. I first discovered them when they were only being sold from a hatch in Ducie Street Warehouse. The chocolate filled donut is my go to (yes I 've had that many I have a go to now) I will also admit that when Rambo takes me there sometimes I don't fight him and use his as the reason to get the donut! @rambo_french_bulldog Puppuccinos and treats - available making Rambo very happy The staff - so friendly and welcoming to Rambo and now know him as we can't just walk past without Rambo trying to push in the queue. To summarise Gooey is a must if you live or a visiting Manchester with your dog. - Mersea Island
A Sandy Pawed Adventure at Mersea Island with Baxter the Beagle @baxter.beagle.2021 If there’s one thing Baxter and I both love, it’s discovering new places together — especially the kind where he can run wild, sniff absolutely everything, and (most importantly) sneak in a cheeky snack or two. Last weekend, we headed to Mersea Island for a proper day out with friends, and it ticked all the boxes. @baxter.beagle.2021 We started off with lunch at Mersea Barns, which is super dog friendly. There’s a lovely garden area for sunny days, a cosy glass room for when the weather’s being a bit… British, and even a shop selling toys, treats, and emergency poop bags (because let’s be honest, we’ve all forgotten them at least once). Naturally, we grabbed a table in the garden to soak up the sunshine. I ordered food while Baxter settled in on his mat, happily chomping on a chew and watching the world go by. @baxter.beagle.2021 As for the food? Incredible. Fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Safe to say, the boys were throwing some serious side-eye while we tucked in — but not a crumb was shared! @baxter.beagle.2021 With full bellies and wagging tails, we set off to explore the east side of the island. We wandered through wide open farmer’s fields, followed the stunning North Coastal Path, meandered through East Mersea Flats Nature Reserve, and finally arrived at the beach — hands down our favourite part of the day. @baxter.beagle.2021 What really sets Mersea Island apart? The beaches are dog-friendly all year round — no summer restrictions, no awkward signs, just endless freedom for the pups to run, dig, and paddle to their heart’s content. Baxter definitely made the absolute most of it! @baxter.beagle.2021 After all that excitement, we decided it was ice cream o’clock. We made our way to the west side of the island and stopped off at the Seaview Beach Diner. While dogs aren’t allowed inside, there’s plenty of outdoor seating, and even a doggy menu! Baxter devoured a puppuccino while I happily got stuck into a Mersea Flurry. @baxter.beagle.2021 Before heading home, we squeezed in one last wander along the beach past the colourful huts, where we found a brilliant old boat wreck — the perfect spot for a few final photos. Mersea Island has everything we look for in a dog-friendly day out: fantastic food, beautiful walking routes, proper beach vibes, and a warm welcome for pups at every stop. We’re already planning our next visit. - Dog Friendly Cambridge
The Four Legged Foodies take a punt on this dog friendly city. We heard that the city of Cambridge loves Four Legged friends so we thought we would check it out for ourselves. Cambridge can be reached by train from London Kings Cross in under 1 hour (visit Thameslink for details and timetables) and by car in around 2 hours. Making the University city a great place for a weekend away. We stayed at the Hyatt Centric which is located in the Eddington area of the city. We were greeted by resident Dachshund Basil who spends most of his days on reception and he recommended some places we should try. We were then shown to our very comfortable room where we had bowls and blankets to use during our stay. The room was very spacious with a sofa and table and a large window from which we could shout out to any fellow doggies passing by. It's always important to let people know you're in town! The two things the humans require of a hotel room are a huge bed and a strong, hot shower. We are pleased to report these boxes were ticked. The hotel has a large outdoor toilet area in the form of a landscaped garden which is partly lawned and there are plenty of bins nearby. The area around the hotel is very quiet as it is situated on an out of town development. The park and ride bus into Cambridge is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Now let's get to the part that's really worth shouting about - the FOOD! We dogs are welcome in the hotel's 2 restaurants and coffee bar. There is also a roof terrace which opens April to September. We had breakfast and dinner in The Astronomer which is a bright and spacious dining area with plenty of room for Four Legged guests. The waiter brought us a plate of biscuits so we didn't have to watch the humans eat. Before or after dinner (or both, you're on holiday go wild!) you can join your humans at Dutch cocktail bar which is next to the hotel. After a hearty breakfast (make sure to get extra sausages) it's time to explore the city. Cambridge is a bustling city with tourists visiting from all over the world to see its beautiful architecture and discover the history of the University. Follow Dog Friendly Cambridge where Matilda the Dachshund has lots of dog friendly suggestions for you. We liked the look of Matilda's suggestion of Scott's All Day for lunch which is a 20 minute walk from the city centre but well worth it. The staff are very welcoming to all four legged foodies and the humans loved the buzzy, social feel of this neighbourhood restaurant. You won't hear us complaining when the pizzas are bigger than our heads! Our friend Hektor recommended a visit to Dishoom Permit Room in Cambridge This a renowned Indian restaurant in London where humans queue for hours to get tables and are not dog friendly but the Permit Rooms are very welcoming to dogs. The most fun thing for all the family to do when in Cambridge is take a punt on the river with The Traditional Punting Company . Pooches and humans can hop on board for a 45 minute trip. Alex did a great job getting us up the river against the tide whislt also telling us lots of historical facts about Cambridge and all the famous people who have studied there. Blankets and umbrellas are provided so this is something you can enjoy in any weather. We did it in December! If you prefer to stay somewhere with a little more space and the option to do your own cooking, we highly recommend Turing Locke apartments which are located next to the Hyatt Centric. All the apartments are dog friendly and pooches are welcomed with a goodie bag each of treats, a toy and a bandana. Guests are able to use all the restaurants and Dutch bar. All that exploring is tiring when you're almost 14! Archie had a great night's sleep in the comfy beds provided at Turing Locke.
